Athco, Or The Renaissance of Faggot Tree, created by acclaimed artist and musician Dorian Wood, is commissioned and presented by LACE (Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions) for Los Angeles Goes Live: Performance Art in Southern California, 1970-1983 as part of Pacific Standard Time, an initiative of the Getty Foundation.

In conducting extensive research, Wood noticed an abundant amount of research material to delve into regarding Asco. He learned of the friendship and collaborations between Asco co-founder Gronk, and cross-dressing performance artist Cyclona, including such works as "Chicano Wedding" and "Gronk's Titanic". Simultaneously, Wood learned about Premature Ejaculation, a collaboration between Rozz Williams (frontman for the band Christian Death) and performance artist Ron Athey. They formed in 1981 and were notorious for 2 performances, one involving Athey eating the insides of a crucified road-kill cat while a young man was tortured, and the other performance involved Athey and Williams slashing with knives through a curtain of porno mag pages. Both collaborations have served as inspirations for this new performance. The format for Athco, Or The Renaissance of Faggot Tree is inspired by the Asco "No Movie", entitled "Decoy Gang War Victim" (1974), in which the artist Gronk was sprawled in the middle of the street, portraying a slain gang member. With this format, Wood hopes to explicate this vast history of performance art in Los Angeles, while simultaneously laying it to rest.

The installation will take place outdoors at a Los Angeles park.  During the event, spectators will enter the installation through a designated path. The path will serve to keep spectators separate from the performers. At the  beginning of the trajectory, each spectator will be given a comprehensive guide to the installation. Upon commencing the tour, they  will notice a series of differently-dressed bodies, mostly of Hispanic descent, all lying on the ground in strategic positions. Close to the 100 bodies mark, there will be a separate, distinct group of four bodies, holding hands, representing the 4 founding members of Asco: Patssi Valdez, Gronk, Harry Gamboa, Jr. and Willie Herron. One of Gronk's hands will be extending toward the hand of another, fifth body, Cyclona. These hands will barely  touch. This will mark the transition of the Chicano art movement to the underground gay/punk movement. The continuing array of bodies will mostly consist of gays, lesbians, transgenders and punks. Once spectators reach the 200 bodies mark, there will be a separate path that leads to a large tent. There will be proper signage at the  beginning of that path, warning spectators of the loud music and potentially disturbing imagery taking place inside. The performance will feature the artist Faggot Tree, the experimental orchestra Killsonic, and several actors. Spectators are asked to move quickly through the tent, then back onto the same path and, finally, to the end of the installation.
